Riverbend

There are over 800 homes behind the bricked entrance to Riverbend.  While we think of the area as a single neighborhood, there are actually 4 separate subdivisions here: Riverbend, Riverbend Lakes, Laurel Estates, and Laurel Lakes Estates.  They each have their own character, but what they share in common is that residents like living there. Over the years I’ve noticed a number of families move from one home to another, down the street, around the corner, or a few blocks away.  But they’ve stayed in Riverbend.  Why?  If you work at LSU, downtown, or even some of the plants along River Road, the location is really convenient. The homes are nice and many were custom built on large lots with room for pools and outdoor kitchens. There’s also a community park where your children can play and a BREC Equestrian Park around the corner.  And, if that weren’t enough of a reason to like living in Riverbend, it’s also located in the St. Aloysius Church and School attendance zone, a beloved community church and highly rated school.

Riverbend was developed in the 1980s.  As the community grew in popularity it expanded and grew to 9 separate filings. Then, in the 1990s Riverbend Lakes was developed.  The lot sizes were a little bit smaller but the homes were new, the ceiling heights a bit higher, and the front elevations in keeping with popular Acadian-influenced design.  It came as no surprise that the neighborhood sold out quickly!  Development of Laurel Estates began in the early 2000’s.  It’s located at the end of Riverbend Blvd and features custom homes on large lots.  There’s a centrally located lake and fountain and homes generally feature upscale amenities.  Laurel Lake Estates was developed around the same.  It, too, is in the back of the neighborhood but this collection of lots and homes is gated. Here you’ll find one of the few neighborhoods near LSU with acreage. The subdivision features estate-sized homes with some values approaching the $1 million mark.
