This Walden has 3 ponds, a community pool, tennis courts, and a clubhouse with meeting rooms and locker rooms! It also has beautiful homes, many of which have been built on courtyard-style streets, with backyards overlooking the water. And, like it’s name sake, tremendous care has been taken to preserve the natural beauty of the landscape all around. There are cypress trees in the ponds, moss on the trees, and ducks crossing the roads. You can paddle a canoe or go for long walks in the acres of community property that are part of this neighborhood. And because of the way design of the streets and an abundance of community acreage the homes themselves are on small lots. It’s quaint, neighbor friendly, and was way ahead of it’s time when it was built: some of the homes in Walden are more than 40 years old.

One of the things I love about Walden is that each home was built to take advantage of the natural beauty and characteristics of it’s lot. No two homes or two lots are alike although many share common architectural elements, like interior courtyards, bricked walks, and New Orleans influenced facades. On occasion you’ll also find homes with more contemporary influences. It’s charming and eclectic, and has been a popular place to live for the almost 30 years I’ve lived in Baton Rouge.

Walden is located right off of Kenilworth Parkway, between Perkins and Highland Roads, near LSU, the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.  This is just a great part of town to live in with restaurants, large and small shopping centers, specialty groceries, parks, fitness centers, libraries, and nature preserves.
