What a great idea! Build an exclusive residential community around a public golf course. Yes – the golf course in Santa Maria is owned and operated by BREC. So is the fitness center and the park. And while you might not associate luxury homes with “great bargain” this one is hard to beat.
Residential development began here in 1992. Today there are over 600 homes on roughly 250 acres. Within Santa Maria there are multiple neighborhoods: The Estates, The Fairways, The Highlands of Santa Maria, Montclair, Parkside, and Charlestown to name a few. And, they offer a variety of home and lifestyle options. Cross a bridge in the back of the community and you’re in the The Highlands with large estate homes. There are detached townhomes in Charlestown, and garden homes in Montclair. On occasion you’ll find a lot for sale. Just a few years ago, Alvarez Construction built it’s annual St. Jude Dream Home in the Charlestown section.
In addition to it’s proximity to a great BREC park, one of the reasons this community is so popular is it’s access to I-10. Downtown Baton Rouge is just a 15 – 20 minute trip. Head in the opposite direction and you’ll be in New Orleans in an hour or so. There’s a Home Depot nearby and a new Alexander’s Market that will even do home delivery. There are also some great nearby restaurants including Ruffino’s, one of my favorites.
