Settlement at Willow Grove is located off Perkins Road. It’s right down the street from
Perkins Rowe and The NeuroMedical Center and practically next door to The Dunham School. For those who’ve lived in Baton Rouge for a long time, it’s where the Kleinpeter Farm used to be.
The site was developed by Richard Carmouche, one of Baton Rouge’s premiere builders, and is one of Baton Rouge’s first traditional neighborhood developments. Construction began shortly after Hurricane Katrina and, at the time, may have been considered a bit of a risk. The land was very valuable and no one really knew if Baton Rouge would welcome luxury homes on small lots with back alley access. The neighborhood plan also included townhomes and light retail near the entrance. And, due to the widening of Perkins Road just at the time the neighborhood was introduced, it was hard to access.
Fast forward a few years and Settlement at Willow Grove became one of the “hottest” neighborhoods in Baton Rouge. Simply put, these homes are beautiful. The community met a previously unmet need for luxury homes with low maintenance. And, “the best of Baton Rouge” builders bought land and built “spec” homes and custom homes. The streets are tree lined and the architectural guidelines reminiscent of old New Orleans.
The success of the community has set a standard for new residential construction in Baton Rouge. The neighborhoods that followed include
The Preserve at Harveston, Perkins Lane, and Rouzan, and on a smaller scale, Lexington Park.
Will Baton Rouge welcome Traditional Neighborhood Developments? You bet! Settlement at Willow Grove set a whole new standard.
