University Club Plantation is a master planned community of luxury homes around 15 minutes south of LSU. It’s located on a 1,200 acre site that was once a sugar cane plantation and it’s where the LSU men’s and women’s golf team play and practice.
Development at University Club began in the late 1990’s and has continued ever since. Today there are over 600 homes in 11 “villages.” Each “village” has been designed to take advantage of the beauty of the surrounding area. Homes are likely to have lake views, golf course views, or views of areas that are protected from future development. Each village has it’s own personality but all residents share the club’s amenities including: a monitored entry, beautifully landscaped green space, two swimming pools, a bath house, a 4,800 square foot fitness center, 6 clay tennis courts, and clubhouse dining. And, of course there’s the private 22-hole golf course designed by LSU alumnus and senior architect Jim Lipe of the Jack Nicklaus design group.
But that’s not all. The surrounding areas are among the fastest growing in East Baton Rouge Parish and that growth is expected to continue. Down Nicholson Drive you’ll find new development at Lexington Estates, another luxury home community. In between Lexington Estates and University Club is Lexington Park, a very popular community of garden homes from Alvarez Construction that sold out almost as quickly as it was built. The Preserve at Harveston is around the corner. L’Auberge Casino Hotel is down the street. And, construction at Pointe Marie, next-door to L’Auberge, is underway. Additional development of residential and retail space is anticipated all along the Bluebonnet corridor and is slated to begin in 2020.
