University Villas

University Villas is a gated community off of Burbank Drive near LSU. Construction began in 2012 and featured homes from local builders including Clegg Builders, JMC Builders, LA Custom Construction, Lancaster Construction, Sarepta Homes, and Stafford Construction. Most were between 1,500 and 1,700 square ft of living space, with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and 2 car garages. The yards were small but with enough room for some outdoor seating, a grill, or a small area for your pets. The homes were attractively priced in the low $200,000’s (they’re a bit more expensive now but still affordable!) and the community was an immediate success appealing to parents of students attending LSU as well as first time homebuyers and people looking to downsize.

Construction in the 2nd filing at University Villas began shortly thereafter. The lot sizes were increased from 40 to 50 foot fronts, the homes were a little bit bigger, and a beautiful clubhouse and pool were added along with a large lake in the center of the neighborhood.

What distinguishes University Villas from the homes built by some of the regional builders, like DSLD Homes and D.R. Horton, are the amenities. These homes have custom cabinetry, crown moldings, granite counter tops in the kitchen and baths, nice light fixtures, and some have fireplaces. They sell at a premium compared to other homes near LSU like Magnolia Lakes, Hunters Trace, or Pelican Lakes. But, they also have upgraded finishes and more variation in the front elevations and floor plans.

The location is very convenient for those attending LSU, employed by LSU, or all the businesses and healthcare providers in this part of town, including Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and General Health.  And, of course, there are lots of restaurants and shopping nearby including the new Arlington Marketplace on the corner of Burbank and Lee Drive, anchored by Rouses Market.  If you haven’t been there, you really should check it out.  It’s a great grocery store with lots of prepared foods and fresh produce. There’s also Atomic Burger, Finbomb Sushi Burritos and Poke Bowls, Jabby’s Pizza, Dat Dog, Zaxby’s, and Sombrero’s. When you want to work off all those calories you can go work out at Orange Theory
